UPDATE Regarding Lockdown 2 (25th Feb 2021)
Update
In the midst of our 2nd lockdown we hope you are all as well as could be expected.
Back in December we were all under the impression that 3 weeks would be the duration and we could start to re build and open up form there. How wrong we were. From this weeks announcement by the 1st Minister it looks likely we will be under full lockdown until the end of April (around 16 + weeks) and then progress to level 3 restrictions (we are familiar with from November and December) Beyond April we will keep our fingers crossed.
To all members who have been able to support the wall through keeping their memberships going whether for a few weeks or continued; we greatly appreciate your support, and equally understand that many of you may be in as much difficulty as ourselves and are unable to do so.
Our aim has always been to weather this storm and to keep the centre going for the future as near to what you have come to enjoy prior to Covid.
The current situation with AVW:
We have take what support is available from Government, both in grants and loans, unfortunately the grants available have not come close to covering our costs and we have been burdened with large loans and using personal finance to tide us through to opening. the furlough scheme, whilst supporting our staff through the crisis, leaves us at a very low level of staffing to keep up with the inevitable work that has to be continued towards opening.
Members support:
Whilst we hope you can keep supporting AVW and we appreciate any support, we do not take it for granted and would remind you that you can opt to freeze at any time. We are happy to retro freeze memberships or refund fees if your circumstances have changed.
You can get in contact with Simon about freezing memberships or anything else by email at info@averticalworld.co.uk
Stay safe, keep fit; running seems to be a thing with staff, plus the inevitable finger board sessions, remember your core (yes that means sit ups and buries!) and flexibility.
We will be here to support you with your goals when we open up.
Simon and the Team

UPDATE Regarding Lockdown 2 (19th Jan 2021)
The whole of mainland Scotland was moved to Level 4 (Lockdown) on the 26th December 2020.
This closed all climbing walls.
At the end of December the reopening was forecast for the 18th Jan.
On Tuesday 19th Jan it was confirmed by the Scottish government that the lockdown would remain until at least Mid February.
Hopefully we will get some notice before the lockdown is relaxed; allowing us to work towards reopening the centre.
REDPOINT COMP 2
With us going in to lockdown prior to the end of December, we have made the decision to extend the end date for Comp 2 to the end of January, giving everyone a full month to try the problems.
We have updated the current standings on the comp page, if you still have your results sheet and wish us to add your results just forward a copy to info@averticalworld.co.uk and we shall update the spreadsheet.
See you all in the new year,
Stay strong

Our latest Covid19 update posted 6th June 2020:
AVW update Thursday 2nd July
We are currently waiting for the Scottish government to give us a date that we can work towards for re opening the centre.
Whilst we guess this will be either the latter half of July or beginning of August it is only a guess and we will let everyone know as soon as we have a date, hopefully that news should be forthcoming soon.
When we have a date we will publish any of the protocols / restrictions that may apply on opening to reduce the risks to all.
We hope to see you soon.
AVW stories
We have started a page on the website (along with posts on social media too), of stories both related to AVW, climbing and the local area. With the intension to inspire, enthuse and create a few smiles, we hope you enjoy.
1st up is a series of photos taken from Broughty Ferry beach, just 4 miles from AVW, and one of many spectacular places around Dundee.
AVERTICAL WORLD TEMPORARY CLOSURE
It is with great sadness that we will be closing AVW from today (Tue 17th March)
This is due to the recent rapid developments in the COVID-19 crisis.
This is the consensus with-in the industry regarding the right thing to do, as a step in the prevention of the rapid spread of COVID-19 and reducing pressures on the NHS.
CLIMBING COMMUNITY
We realise how this will effect our community and the importance AVW holds in your lives both climbing and socially. We wish to keep AVW alive through this crisis so that we can reopen the centre and preserve jobs for our valued employees.
MEMBERSHIPS
If you have a Monthly / 6 month / Annual membership your pass will be frozen.
We do not have a system to do this immediately so we would ask for your patience, they will re-activate automatically when we reopen.
EXISTING BOOKINGS
We will contact current bookings directly to hopefully plan a delay to the planned date.
SUPPORTING AVERTICAL WORLD
Please stay a member – We are asking all current pass holders not to cancel their memberships but to stick with the freeze. This will be of considerable help towards AVW’s survival.
We are supporting our staff on this and you will realise that as this has happened so quickly there may be staff who are not up to speed with regards to the current situation, please be patient.
If you leave a message we will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible.
PLEASE LOOKOUT FOR EACH OTHER
We are all together in this extraordinary event and supporting each other will play a big role in the weeks ahead.
