ROCK ON PARIS 2024

With a few months to go to the PARIS games.

There remain a few qualification events that may give us a chance of getting another competitor to join Toby Roberts (who has already qualified) in Paris.

Of course with Shauna Coxsey now retired from competing there are a whole new group of UK climbers hoping to represent the country in Paris.

As qualification takes its process we will post updates here.

CLIMBING IS ARRIVING AT THE OLYMPICS, 2021!

For the first time climbing was going to arrive at the Olympics, the  TOKYO  Olympics, well we all will know by now that this is going to happen in the summer of 2021 due to the Covid 19 out break. We can still get excited! as it is only a postponement, all the competitors should be super psyched by 2021.

WHAT SORT OF CLIMBING?

The competition will be a combination of 3 Events:

BOULDERING

SPEED CLIMBING

SPORT CLIMBING

BOULDERING:  Low level gymnastic style climbing above large matting, without ropes.

SPEED CLIMBING: 2 competitors compete side by side for a fastest ascent, the fastest moves on to the next round.

SPORT CLIMBING: Roped climbing on longer climbs attempting to ascend as high as possible on a new climb.

WHO WINS?

There will be medals for a combined position so, those who score highly in all the 3 disciplines are likely to win medals.

WHO WILL BE COMPETING?

There are 20 women and 20 men.

They are chosen through various world wide competitions.

Up to 2 women / men from a given country can compete.

DO WE HAVE ANY CLIMBERS GOING?

YES! So far we have Shauna Coxsey representing the UK. Shauna is a multi medal winner in  previous world cups.

Watch Shauna at work in one of many videos, this one by Red bull one of her sponsors

Anyone else? so far no other UK based climbers have made the cut (as of Feb 2020).

There are still a few places available which will be fought for once the restrictions around Covid 19 are lifted.

Fingers crossed that another UK athlete can make the cut for TOKYO 2021.
